Wisconsin Blaze Boys Basketball Coach
Chad Schmidt is a graduate of Whitehall High School in Whitehall, WI (‘92). He earned twelve varsity letters playing basketball (MVP, all-conference), baseball (MVP, all-conference, state runner-up), track (MVP, all-conference, state qualifier in high jump), and football. He went on to pursue his education and basketball career at North Central University in Minneapolis, MN. At North Central University, Chad was a part of a basketball team that won a district title in 1993. Chad transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he played baseball and graduated (‘98) with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Major in Kinesiology; Emphasis Teaching and a Minor in Coaching. Chad earned his M.S. Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (‘04) where he studied and wrote his thesis on student motivation. Chad received his 3 Dimensional Coaching Certificate from Northwest Missouri State (‘16).
While attending UW-Eau Claire, Chad was a volunteer assistant basketball coach for Eau Claire Memorial High School for three years. In 1996, he was a part of a WIAA Division 1 state tournament team. Also, Chad was head baseball coach for Blair-Taylor High School for two years. In 1997, he led the Blair-Taylor Wildcats to two straight WIAA sectional final games and their first and only WIAA Baseball State Tournament appearance in school history.
In 1998, Chad arrived in Shiocton to teach high school physical education and coach. Besides teaching physical education, Chad teaches Leadership Studies as an adjunct instructor through St. Norbert College and teaches an Active Life Styles class through UW-Oshkosh. Chad has coached baseball, football, golf, and basketball. He has led the Shiocton Boys Basketball Program to CWC Conference Championships in 2002, 2004, 2013 and 2017. They were Regional Champions in 2002, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017. Chad led the Chiefs Boys Varsity Basketball Team to a 57-12 conference record in the last five years. He was CWC-8 Coach of the Year in 2017.
Chad coached in the WBCA High School All-Star Games in 2005 (assistant coach) and 2010 (head coach). He has coached AAU basketball since 2010.
In his own words, “My coaching philosophy is to teach athletes important life skills through the game of basketball. Teach and guide athletes to learn to fall in love with the process of being great.”
He and his wife Nancy have four boys: Nathan, Caden, Dawson, and Bennett.
